Gambar
The last couple of summers have seen our obsession with all things floral-print taken to the extreme thanks, in large part, to the undeniable surge in popularity of brands such as Rixo and Reformation for whom punchy, feminine prints are their bread and butter. Having taken note of this demand for visual embellishment but adapted it for a their customer with a slightly more muted aesthetic, Faithfull The Brand has seen swathes of influencers and fashion editors snapping up its chic, boho-inspired pieces over the last few months. But the label undoubtedly hit the jackpot this weekend, landing their most high-profile fan in the form of the Duchess of Cambridge, who paired the dress with £5 Accessorize earrings. One of the world's most major fashion influencers in her own right, anything Kate wears sells out in minutes - and this v-neck multicoloured midi was no different, flying off shelves via every stockist. You crave the excitement of lusting after a new piece, but you've got nowhere to wear it. You may have been furloughed or struggling for work, and therefore have little disposable cash right now. You're likely also acutely aware of frivolous spending on fast fashion that's likely harming the environment. For many of us, the negatives have outweighed the positives recently, with little more than the quick thrill of a new outfit to wear precisely nowhere proving an unjustifiable cause. Feeling guilty about shopping for fashion RN? You need to read this… But, as if it's been witness to our thoughts over recent weeks, H&M has just launched a capsule collection of sustainable dresses - just in time for the much-anticipated lockdown lift. Raven-Symoné Got Married in a Utility Jumpsuit So Wedding Dresses Are Officially Outdated

Raven-Symoné married Miranda Maday on June 18, 2020 in an intimate backyard celebration in front of family and friends. I am sure their guests were just as blown away by the brides' wedding outfit choice as I was: coordinating utility jumpsuits. Raven styled hers — which came with zippered pockets up and down the legs — with a pair of black Gucci ankle boots studded with sparkling crystals. She also wore statement drop rhinestone earrings that say "LOVED," because who needs pearls? Miranda, on the other hand, worked an ivory Gucci jumpsuit with the brand's signature stripes, pumps, and a white veil, and Raven's ombré hairstyle added all the color the two needed to balance out the neutrals and really pack a punch. Even though Raven and Miranda's looks definitely cost a pretty penny, we shopped out their bridal essentials after the jump. If nothing else, these clever looks are just making me reconsider a wedding dress altogether. Why not tie the knot in so

Kim Kanye and daughter North wear custom designer clothing for fashion-forward Father's Day photo

Kim Kardashian's Instagram grid serves as quite the homage to her family and this Father's Day was no exception. To celebrate the day, the 39-year-old posed alongside Kanye West and their four children in a very fashion-forward photoshoot. Did we really expect anything else from the Kardashian-West clan? The pair - and their eldest daughter, North, seven - were all wearing custom looks by British-Nigerian designer Mowalola Ogunlesi. Kardashian dedicated the post to "the best dad" and said: "Thank you for making life so much fun! You give our kids the most awesome life! I love you so much!!!" The post attracted thousands of likes, not least because of Kardashian's support for Mowalola, a Central Saint Martins graduate. Death of the fashion season? Shopping is getting a shake-up

Gambar
"When I launch pre-orders, I get a 23 per cent lift with site visits – that customer is [also] looking at product that's available and more likely purchasing that." McCall is also considering launching an in-house rental service. "There's demand for my product but we can supply it in different ways, as well as [through] purchasing. It's interesting to brainstorm." Finding more responsible ways to make and sell clothes, as well as when to sell them, are some of the big issues being debated by fashion globally as it looks to how people will consume fashion in a post-pandemic world. One major shift is likely to be a "death" of traditional seasons, meaning clothes will be more readily available when people actually want them. So coats in May, not February, and swimwear in November, not July. There is also a shift away from large-scale releases of styles a few times a year to tighter, more frequent "drops", which offer consumers new things

Fashion Redesigned Itself in Lockdown

Gambar
(Bloomberg) -- Fashion executives have spent the lockdown figuring out how to sell their products online. They're learning lessons that may shape the retail trade even as America's shopping malls reopen. That's just one of the abrupt changes forced on an industry highly attuned to shifting trends. Here's another: If customers are more likely to be buying clothes from home, they're more likely to wear them there too. In the absence of dress-up events, there's a surge in demand for comfort. © Bloomberg Dressing Down From food to furniture, businesses are mapping out what they expect to be the new patterns of demand — and repositioning their companies accordingly. Fashion has faced some of the worst upheaval of all. In the pandemic's early stages, Americans all but stopped buying clothes. Sales plunged almost 90%, four times the drop in overall commerce. The demand shock threatened to bankrupt big-name retailers, and import-r

Designer creates stunning dresses from discarded electrical wires

Gambar
A UK-based fashion designer has found an innovative use for throwaway electrical wires, creating garments and accessories out of the waste material. Alexandra Sipa, a recent fashion graduate from London's prestigious arts university Central Saint Martins, was inspired to start the project after her phone charger broke. The 23-year-old decided to source discarded electrical wires from a recycling centre and her uncle's construction site, before handcrafting her unique take on lace. Born and raised in Bucharest, Romania, Sipa incorporated traditional Romanian techniques into her process, eventually naming her finished project 'Romanian Camouflage.' "My graduate collection was driven by my motivation to create innovative luxury textile from waste," explains Sipa. "I used wires to develop garments and accessories by hybridizing multiple lace making techniques, both traditional Romanian techniques and popular Western techniques." So far Sipa has made a dr

See the Most OMG Fashion Looks to Hit the Red Carpet in the Last 30 Years

Gambar
This June, E! turns 30! To celebrate, we're looking back at the most monumental moments in pop culture. When it comes to major moments in the last three decades, red carpet style is one of the things we love to swoon over. There's been plenty of eye-catching gowns, dramatic capes, chic pantsuits and so much more in the last 30 years. Some memorable fashion lewks that come to mind are Beyoncé's drool-worthy (and custom-made) Coachella ensembles by Balmain in 2018 to Cindy Crawford's famous Versace design at the 1992 MTV VMAs, which featured gold buckles, a sheer corset and dominatrix-like straps. Of course, who could forget Jennifer Lopez's legendary tropical-print number at the 2000 Grammys (which was also Versace)... or Rihanna's blinding "naked dress" that was made out of Swarovski-crystals, which she slipped into for the 2014 CFDA Awards? Moreover, women aren't the only ones playing up their wardrobes on the red carpet. Stars like Bad Bunny, Don

My final collection is influenced by the LGBTQ community, immigrants, people of colour and anyone who experiences hate. I want to show that they shouldn't be described as different but as extraordinary. My cover illustration was inspired by six of my extraordinary friends: Ieva, Nifemi, Marium, Nazia, Halima and Zazzka. I think it takes more than one person to make a change, but only one to start a change. In these uncertain times, we need to put our differences aside and unite as one. SKU'd: When mall stores went to fashion week

Gambar
Mall brands used to go to fashion week. Around the 2010s, companies with mall stores across the U.S. were starting to flirt with runway shows or participate in events surrounding New York Fashion Week.  Now, many of those companies that were edging in on the fashion elite are struggling to survive. Which isn't to say that luxury fashion is doing much better. COVID-19 has done a number on the apparel industry as a whole, with clothing and accessories down an incomprehensible 89% year over year from last April.  The entire industry, from mid-tier brands to established fashion houses, is reassessing how to market, display and sell apparel. What may at first glance look like a simple reassessment of fashion events reaches into deeper areas of discussion, including a disappearing middle class, questions around sustainability, and keeping models and buyers alike from getting sick at runway shows.  Affordable "luxury" In the late 2000s

What Happens After Fashion's Brightest Designers Take Their Final Bow?

Gambar
When Phoebe Philo took her final bow at Céline in 2018, few could understand why. The British designer was at the peak of her career – design director at one of fashion's most coveted brands. She was also driving every major trend to hit catwalks and the high street (fluid tailoring, the camel coat, women everywhere ditching heels for trainers), loved by press and customers alike and even name-dropped by Kanye. At the time, there was arguably no designer more influential or admired… Then, just like that, the then-44-year-old designer walked away from it all. While things couldn't have been better as far as impact and sales went (she was believed to have tripled profits over her 10-year tenure), behind the scenes, a different story played out. Overseeing everything from fashion shows to store design, as well as famously travelling between London and Paris every week, while maintaining her home life with her husband and three children, many wondered if the view from the top

Pelosi And Schumer’s Fashion Fail? The Problem With White People Wearing Kente

Gambar
On Monday, in conjunction with the introduction of new federal police reform legislation, Democratic Congressional leaders came together in Emancipation Hall in the U.S. Capitol to kneel together in support of the fight for racial justice. In addition to the symbolic gestures, the leaders, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, wore kente stoles, ceremonial African cloths originating from the west African nation of Ghana. In doing so, they meant to honor Black lives. Instead, they appropriated African culture. Kente cloth is known as nwentoma in Akan, and according to Ashanit mythology, was inspired by the intricate weaving of Anansi the Spider. Two Akan friends, enchanted by the design of the spider's web, returned to their village and began to weave kente. According to African American Intellectual History Society, textile production by the Akan and Ewe peoples began as early as 1000 B.C.E , and the bold kente design we are most famil
